This is a post highlighting an overview of Salesforce – Following Records.
To start the demonstration, I’ve navigated to an Account record. Afterwards, click on the “Follow” button, which will change to “Following” after the action registers.
What I found is a delay and different behavior when working with Salesforce – Following Records features. First, looking at Lightening, one of quickest options is to just click in the global search bar. Followed records are displayed inline:
Both screenshots above show that this record is being followed. However, when I navigate to my profile in Lightening, I don’t see it registered after waiting about 15-20 minutes. I’ve also logged out and logged in
To note, I do think this will show up after waiting a bit longer…these things often take time to propagate.
However, it is equally noteworthy that the followed-record was immediately visible in my Classic profile, and the Search bar is not so dynamic; the Classic search bar does not have a flyout automatically populated with these followed records.
That is a brief look at how use Follow with records in Salesforce. Though this demonstration highlights Accounts, the feature is available throughout various records: Contacts, Cases, Leads, and so on.
After searching around, I found a note here @ https://salesforcetime.com/2021/07/26/followed-records-list-in-lightning-using-flow/
“[the] Following list doesn’t exist in Salesforce Lightning…”. That is apparently by design. I also understand now why the icon for “Following” in Lightning is a person idiom.
